Johannesburg – At least 11 suspects are behind bars after they were arrested before they could break into a warehouse at O.R Tambo International Airport.

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) said the attempted robbery took place at the cargo precinct of O.R Tambo International Airport on Friday evening.

“A vehicle containing 11 suspects gained access through the main gate; security procedures were activated and followed which led to the apprehension of all suspects,” ACSA said in a statement Saturday.

Reports from the scene said the suspects were caught hiding in cardboard boxes at the back of a truck.

Airport management commended the South African Police Services (SAPS) for their quick response and arrest of the suspects.

The incident is being investigated by the SA Police Service and further information should be obtained from the spokesperson for the SAPS.
