CHINA-BOUND: Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan and his delegation have travelled to China.

Pretoria – Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan and his delegation have travelled to China.

Gordhan is leading a delegation to the People’s Republic of China to meet with his counterparts in the Chinese government as part of efforts to fast-track the delivery of locomotives and spare parts by state-owned CRRC e-Loco supply to Transnet.

“Minister Gordhan is hopeful that talks with his Chinese counterparts will yield positive results in the interest of both SOCs and in particular to ensure the effective and efficient South African logistics and network services for the benefit of the country’s economy,” the Department of Public Enterprises said on Monday.

Meanwhile, the department said it would confirm the date for the Minister’s appearance before Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) on a date to be agreed with the committee.

SCOPA members were left frustrated because former Eskom CEO André de Ruyter, who appeared virtually, would not be drawn to reveal the identity of the senior politician who he previously alleged was involved in wrongdoing and criminality at the power utility.

SCOPA has resolved to call senior government officials including Gordhan to answer allegations of corruption at Eskom made by De Ruyter.
