Johannesburg – #NOTINMYNAME – the civil rights movement – on Thursday demanded that Russell Paul step down from his job as South African Football Association’s (SAFA) CEO for South Africa’s bid committee for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

Earlier this week SAFA finalised the organising committee of the 2027 Fifa Women’s World Cup bid during its national executive committee meeting.

“Much to our dismay, Russell Paul was appointed to lead the committee as its CEO,” said #NOTINMYNAME.

“#NOTINMYNAME rejects this decision as it suggests that there were no capable women to lead the committee – this is factually incorrect, downright insulting, and reflects a legitimised method of being exclusionary.

“#NOTINMYNAME demands that Russell Paul must rest and allow women to be active agents in their own spaces.

“We are certain he can occupy his time with less oppressive activities.”

SAFA was yet to respond to the demand made by #NOTINMYNAME.
