Pretoria – The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) on Friday announced that it has received representations from “relevant parties” regarding the unlawful medical parole granted to former president Jacob Zuma.
The Constitutional Court dismissed the DCS appeal against a ruling that releasing Zuma on medical parole was unlawful.
However, the Constitutional Court placed the onus on the DCS to decide whether the former president should be sent back to prison to complete his 15-month imprisonment for contempt.
“The next phase is for the National Commissioner, Mr. Makgothi Samuel Thobakgale to consider every material received, the Judgment of the Supreme Court of Appeal, and prescripts within the space of Corrections,” the DCS said in a brief communique on Friday.

“Commissioner Thobakgale is to make his decision on or before 10 August 2023 and it will be communicated publicly,” the DCS said.
Earlier this week, Zuma’s foundation said the former president was back in South Africa from his medical-related trip to Russia.
