Cape Town – The whereabouts of Jaco Swart – the elusive man accused of assaulting a female police officer during a domestic dispute – will be revealed on Monday.

Initially, Swart was said to have fled to the UK to avoid being served with a summons, but AfriForum’s Private Prosecution Unit said it would now reveal his whereabouts.

The unit said it will be in the Kuilsrivier Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 14 August 2023), to represent the complainant in the assault case against Swart.

Two months ago, in June, the unit announced that it had obtained the certificate to proceed with a private prosecution against Swart, but the summons could not be served on him because he could not be located in South Africa.

AfroForum said the head of the unit, Advocate Gerrie Nel, will call a police detective as a witness who will provide details to the court on the whereabouts of Swart and how he managed to leave the country.

Allegations are that on the morning of 13 January 2022 the complainant – a female police officer – was asked for help by her neighbour.

The neighbour said her “intoxicated” friend, Swart, was refusing to leave her flat. She said they had earlier been on a night out.

Swart allegedly locked the security gate and prevented the woman from leaving her flat.

The police officer put her hand through the security gate and told Swart not to close the door.

Despite this, and knowing she was a police officer, Swart allegedly used force and slammed the door on her arm causing damage to her tendon.

She then called for backup and Swart eventually left the property.

The police officer is pursuing a private prosecution assisted by Afriforum.
