Klerksdorp – A 50-year-old security officer at the Klerksdorp Court building, in the North West, has been arrested after he was caught on camera stealing coffee and sugar from a senior prosecutor’s office.
Officials at the court building have been complaining lately about items going missing from their offices.
A senior prosecutor, who suspected someone was entering her locked office while she was away, installed a camera and linked it to her phone.
On Sunday, 23 July 2023, Kgangetsile Motsumi, a security officer at the Klerksdorp Court Building, was caught on camera entering her office.
Motsumi was recorded going through the prosecutor’s drawers and documents.

The security officer then helped himself to coffee and sugar before he realised that there was a camera in the office.
The recording ended abruptly after Motsumi turned the camera off.
When the senior prosecutor went to her office to collect her gown, she noticed that the camera had been unplugged.
Later when she viewed the recording using her cellphone App that allows her to remotely access the camera in her office she was taken aback to see the security officer rummaging through her drawers and stealing from her office.
With the incriminating video evidence, authorities arrested Motsumi on Thursday and brought him before the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court.
Motsumi was released on a warning and ordered to appear in court o 12 September 2023.
“The Director of Public Prosecutions in the North West, Dr. Rachel Makhari, has welcomed the arrest, and she raised concerns over the security breaches, as the affected prosecutor deals with high-profile cases,” said National Prosecuting Authority North West Spokesperson Henry Mamothame.
