Durban – Garikai Madawo – the Zimbabwean marathon runner and courier driver reported missing – has been found dead in Moodie Street in Pinetown.
The 42-year-old, who previously contested in the Comrades Marathon as a Netram Technologies sponsored runner, had been reported missing on Tuesday, (31/09/2023).
He was found dead on Friday, (4 November 2023).
Details of the cause of death were sketchy, but reports say Madawo was wearing black jeans, a black anorak, and sturdy safety boots when he was last seen.
A resident of Milkway Drive in Marriantidge, KwaZulu-NataL, Madawo was employed at a courier company in Durban when he went missing.
Arrive Alive said the alarm was raised on Tuesday after Madawo proceeded on delivery in Pinetown and could not be located.
“The tracking unit on his company bakkie was activated after his employer was unable to make contact with him on his cellphone,” said Arrive Alive.
“The white Chevrolet Utility bakkie was later recovered abandoned on the MR 461 in KwaNdengezi, KwaZulu-Natal.
“Madawo’s personal belongings including his wallet and ATM cards were recovered in the vehicle. Some of the goods in transit which included GHD hair straighteners were missing.”
Police are investigating, but no arrests have been made.
