Cape Town – Gareth Blight who allegedly murdered his neighbour Shane Human following an altercation at his Protea Village home will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, (6 March 2024).

Blight is accused of fatally stabbing the special needs teacher almost a year ago on 29 April 2023.

Blight has been held in custody since the incident.

DECEASED: Special needs teacher Shane Human was stabbed to death last year in April

Earlier this year, on 6 February, the accused appeared in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court, when the trial was supposed to start.

However, the attorney for the accused applied for the matter to be postponed so that Blight’s blood alcohol report could be obtained.

The matter was ready for trial in November last year and has already been transferred to the regional court.

“Commenting on the matter Barry Bateman, spokesperson for the AfriForum, said: “The family and friends of murdered special needs teacher, Shane Human, have raised concerns that the trial of the man accused of the crime has not yet started”.

He added: “Blight will appear in court again on Wednesday”.
