Potchefstroom – Police have recovered three cars stolen from Alberton and Hartbeespoortdam between March 2021 and October 2023 and arrested a suspect.
Acting on a tip-off, a team comprising Provincial and Klerksdorp Crime Intelligence units, Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit, SA Tracker Connect, Jouberton Visible Policing unit, Insurance Crime Bureau, and Cap Security collaborated to recover three Toyota Etios vehicles.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said a 41-year-old suspect was arrested after the stolen vehicles were recovered in Jouberton Township, outside Klerksdorp, North West, on Friday, (2 August 2024).
The suspect is expected to appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court today, (Monday 5 August 2024).
Brigadier Mokgwabone said a day earlier, (Thursday 1 August 2024), police arrested five Mozambicans in Brits, North West, where stolen motor vehicles were recovered.
“On arrival at the identified address, the police found the suspects stripping parts from the red Mazda CX5,” Brigadier Mokgwabone said.
“The car was circulated together with a Mahindra and a motorbike, which were also found at the place, and they all tested positive [as reported stolen].
“The Mazda was linked with a car hijacking case reported in Mmakau last month.”
The arrested suspects; four males and a female, are expected to appear in the Brits Magistrate’s Court today, (Monday, August 2024).
North West Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena lauded everyone involved in both operations to recover the stolen vehicles.
