Stellenbosch – A Hawks warrant officer accused of fatally shooting his wife will spend Christmas behind bars after his matter was postponed.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) said the accused, who has not been named, made his first appearance at the Stellenbosch Magistrate’s Court today, (23 December 2024).
Allegations are that the Hawks warrant officer killed his wife during a domestic dispute on Saturday, (21 December 2024).
“It is alleged that the couple were involved in an argument at their home on Khayamnandi in Stellenbosch,” IPID said.
“The wife ran to the neighbour’s yard but the accused officer pursued her and fired shots toward her as she ran into the neighbour’s house.
“It is further alleged that he (the accused) followed her into the house where he continued to fire shots at her in full view of the neighbours.”
IPID said the wife succumbed to her injuries and was certified dead at the crime scene by paramedics. IPID said it processed the accused Hawks officer, who is facing a murder charge.
Ten spent cartridges and two bullet points were collected at the crime scene.
