Rustenburg – Magalies Water in the North West has appointed Engineer Ofentse Nthutang as its new Chief Executive with effect from today, Sunday 1 June 2025,
In a statement made available to The Bulrushes at the weekend, Magalies Water said Nthutang was appointed, for five years, after a “rigorous recruitment process”.
Initially, Nthutang joined the water utility as its General Manager, Engineering Services.
Before his latest appointment, Nthutang was Chief Operations Officer from September 2023.
Nthutang, who has a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil) from the University of the Witwatersrand, has been Acting Chief Executive since July 2024.
In his early career, Nthutang held several positions including:
- General Manager of Technical Services at Vhembe District Municipality,
- Chief Engineer at the National Department of Public Works,
- Principal Engineer with BIP Consulting Engineers,
- Regional Manager with Ingerop Africa Consulting Engineers, and
- Engineer with Arup Consulting Engineers.
The new CEO of Magalies Water is also a registered Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
Nthutang also has a certificate for Investment Analysis and Risk Analysis from Queen’s University in Canada and has completed his Master’s in Business Administration with the University of Reading, Henley Business School.
Reacting to his appointment, the engineering professional said what lay before him was “a mammoth task, as Magalies Water is still adjusting to the recent sectoral reforms undertaken during the 6th administration”.
Nthutang said: “Magalies Water was a relatively small water board prior to the disestablishment of the erstwhile Sedibeng Water and has doubled in terms of its workforce and finds itself operating in the entire North West.
“We have already as a measure of proactiveness following the proclamation of our expanded service area commenced.”
