The TV personality, who is ActionSA’s Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate, was represented by defence lawyer Adv Zola Majavu,

The charges stem from an incident in December 2025 during a drug-busting operation, where Khumalo allegedly assaulted a suspected drug dealer.

He voluntarily surrendered at Katlehong Police Station earlier today.

ActionSA called the arrest politically motivated, vowing to continue fighting crime.

The case is postponed to February 18 for further investigation.

Following a brief court appearance, Khumalo issued a statement in which he said: “Full focus turns back to the communities of Ekurhuleni so that we can continue the fight to fix this city and reverse the rot that has left many residents without reliable water, refuse collection, basic services, and a city ravaged by brazen criminality”.

Khumalo added: “Today’s events are a deliberate distraction from the real work of restoring dignity and safety to residents abandoned by an incompetent and corrupt government, with news reports today once again revealing the extent of the criminal capture of Ekurhuleni.

“We will keep fighting to fix Ekurhuleni, and any frivolous attempt to stop this work will only show how urgent and necessary it is to intensify our efforts.”

Khumalo said “this fight” was for residents who are tired of empty promises and demand real action.

“Our work will continue until residents have running water, working infrastructure, and communities that are safe from crime,” stated ActionSA’s Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate.

“Thank you to every South African who showed up today.

“It is only with your support that the fight to rid our communities of crime and restore their dignity will be won.”
