A hospital in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali, which is named after a Saudi Arabia king is getting a US $14m boost for the expansion of its outpatient facilities.

The King Faisal Hospital (KFH), which was built between 1987 and 1991 with the help of the Saudi Fund for Development, is looking to revamp the outpatient clinic and double its facilities’ capacity.

When the benevolent Faisal was the crown prince of Saudi Arabia he outlawed slavery in that country.

KFH is a state-of-the-art, multi-specialty, 160-bed quaternary hospital that provides a range of specialised healthcare in Eastern and Central Africa.

The Eastern and Southern African Trade and Development Bank (TBD) has already approved US $14m for the project.

The funds will also be used to renovate and construct the outpatient block’s education and research centre, daycare premium facilities, electric substation, safety ramps, and main entrance and lobby.

KFH – situated in the Kacyiru area – and TBD agreed to a 6-year primary forfaiting transaction for the project, which aims to improve patient flow and clinic experience.

Each specialty clinic will have a dedicated triage and consultation space.
