Royal AM is refusing to play against Chippa in a promotion playoff game set for Tuesday – instead, the team says it is heading to the Supreme Court.
Matters came to a head on the last day of the league when Royal AM finished on top of the GladAfrica Championship, but before they could be promoted to the DSTV Premiership there was a glitch.
The team in second place, Sekhukhune, won an arbitration matter that added 3 points to their tally making them GladAfrica Championship leaders ahead of Royal AM.
Royal AM has refused to back down and now wants the Supreme Court to overturn a high court ruling allowing the play-off to go ahead until the arbitration matter is resolved.
Club CEO Sinky Mnisi says Royal AM are taking their dispute with the PSL over the promotion playoffs to the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein.
Even though Royal AM’s matter halting the promotion play-offs was thrown out by the high court on Friday, the team says it is now petitioning the Supreme Court.
“Our legal stance is that we are not playing simple,” says Mnisi.
Royal AM is owned by Andile Mpisane. His mother is wealthy businesswoman Shauwn Mpisane.
Shauwn bought the team for her son last year.
Andile is also the Royal AM chairman and a registered player.
