Former president Jacob Zuma is back at the Estcourt Correctional Centre, where he is serving a 15-month sentence for contempt of court.
Earlier on Thursday, the 79-year-old former president was let out of prison, under escort, to attend his brother Michael’s funeral at Nkandla.
Michael, 77, died last week after a long illness.
The funeral was held under heavy security and no journalists were allowed to attend.
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala, who attended the funeral, said Zuma was in “good spirits”.
He thanked the Department of Correctional Services for allowing the former president to participate in the funeral.
Zuma, who is considered a low-risk prisoner, was back at Estcourt at the agreed time.
He is eligible for parole in about 14 weeks. Alternatively, Zuma can apply for medical parole.
Zuma’s lawyer, Advocate Dali Mpofu, last week suggested that the former president could be out of prison in a few weeks.
