A Mpumalanga man accused of shooting dead his wife and two children in Mbombela was found with a gunshot wound.
Just a day after Women’s Month, a 32-year-old woman and her two children aged 10 and four were shot inside their Tonga home in Nkomazi.
When paramedics arrived they certified the woman and one of the children dead at the scene.
The other child had been rushed to a hospital by a family member but was also certified dead on arrival.
Police said the 36-year-old husband was also found with a gunshot wound.
A gun, thought to be the murder weapon, was recovered at the scene of the deadly shooting, which occurred on Wednesday at about 9.30 pm.
After shooting his wife and two children, the husband called other members of the family and told them what he had done. He then turned the gun on himself.
The man, who is receiving treatment, faces three counts of murder.
Mpumalanga Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela has strongly condemned the tragic domestic incident and urged couples experiencing difficulties to seek professional help rather than resort to violence.
