Gabon has sent star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang back to Arsenal in the UK after medical tests indicated the player had developed a cardiac issue related to his recent bout of Covid-19.
Aubameyang who is back at his North London club tested positive for Covid-19 before AFCON kicked off and has not played a single game for Gabon.
The former Arsenal skipper was left out of the Gabon squad that drew 1-1 against Ghana on Friday after scan results showed a suspected heart problem.
The 32-year-old striker is expected to undergo further tests in the UK.
It has been tough for Aubamayeng in recent times. His mom was seriously ill when he visited her and returned late to Arsenal.
The club stripped him of his captaincy “over a breach of rules” and he has not been included in the squad for several weeks.
Aubameyang has scored 68 goals for Arsenal in 128 appearances.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Aubameyang with pundits suggesting he could be sold to another club – something that might prove difficult considering his hefty wages and reported health issues.
