The South Africa Football Association (SAFA) might as well prepare to part with big bucks after promising Banyana Banyana players R400 000 each if they bring home the coveted Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Sunday’s 1-0 win over Botswana means South Africa will meet Tunisia in the quarter-finals.

Banyana won all three of their games in Group C of the tournament being played in Morocco.

South Africa’s victories included an impressive 2-1 win over favourites Nigeria and a 3-1 drubbing of Burundi.

Last month, SAFA chief financial officer Gronie Hluyo said R10 million had been set aside as part of the team’s incentives, travel, and hotel accommodation costs.

“If they win the tournament, they get R400 000,” Hluyo promised.

With the winning streak, Banyana are on, that’s a promise SAFA will have to keep.
