Johannesburg – Africa’s leading Tattoo Convention will be held at Orlando stadium in Soweto next Saturday (26 November 2022).
The Soweto Ink Tattoo convention, which is in its 5th year is the brainchild of Ndumiso Ramate and his friend Sibusiso Dlamini, who are also co-owners of the only black-owned tattoo studio, Soweto Ink Tattoo & Lifestyle.
The studio is located in the heart of Soweto township.
Ramate, who also juggles as the marketing officer of Soweto Ink Tattoo shop said: The conventions aim is to celebrate and embracing the African tattoo culture while helping the up and coming tattoo artists about the ins and outs of the industry of skin ink, and everyone who is interested in the tattoo business.

Ramate says the idea of opening the Soweto Ink Tattoo shop came way back, in 2014, when together with Sibusiso Dlamini failed to find a tattoo shop they could afford on the internet.
Back then they could not afford those in Joburgs northern suburbs.
I needed to get a tattoo and had to phone a friend who was in Durban, and he came all the way to Joburg to tattoo me, and that is when we had a discussion on opening a tattoo shop.
Dlamini became a co-founder, and he is also the head artist at Soweto Ink Tattoo & Lifestyle.
The duo has since established two branches, one in Soweto and another one in Botswana.
Their clientele is people who understand and appreciate the artwork and can afford a luxurious lifestyle and what a professional tattoo looks like.
The soft-spoken Ramate told WMSA that the event does not only attract people who are tattoo enthusiasts but any other people who appreciate good company.
We are bringing local and international tattoo artists that will be exhibiting, we have an entertainment lineup, nice food stalls available, it is a nice entertainment scene where everybody can enjoy themselves, concluded Ramate.
