Pretoria – Armed robbers pounced on a cash-in-transit-van Friday evening along Waltloo Road in Silverton and used explosives to get to the money.
A guard was shot in the brazen heist.
Emer-G-Med said when paramedics arrived on the scene of the cash heist, they found the shell of a bombed cash van.
“One of the guards sustained gunshot wounds and was in a critical condition,” said Emer-G-Med.
“Advanced Life Support intervention was needed to stabilise him before he was airlifted by the Netcare911 aeromedical helicopter to a specialist facility for the definitive care that he required.”
SA Police Service officers were also on the scene and are investigating the robbery. No arrests have yet been made.
It was unclear how much money the robbers made off with.
