Johannesburg – Emergency responders in Gauteng have had a busy weekend attending to several serious car crashes in which at least five people lost their lives and many others were injured in separate incidents.
Three people were killed, and two others were left with moderate injuries in a collision on Summit Road in Midrand on Saturday night.
In another car crash paramedics attended to a 40-year-old man who was found to have sustained critical injuries in a collision on the N14 early Saturday morning in Olievenhoutbosch, Johannesburg.

Advanced Life Support intervention was needed to stabilise him before he was airlifted by the Netcare911 aeromedical helicopter to a specialist facility for the definitive care that he required.
Just after 19h00 on Saturday night, Emer-G-Med paramedics responded to the scene of a collision on Jan Smuts Avenue.
On arrival on the scene, a light motor vehicle was found to have overturned.
The driver, the only occupant, was found to have sustained critical injuries and was entrapped in the wreckage.
Emergency Care Practitioners worked to stabilise him whilst he was cut free using the Jaws-of-life.
Once free he was transported rapidly by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further care.

Early Sunday morning Emer-G-Med paramedics responded to the N1 near the N4 interchange in the Hatfield area.
On arrival at the scene, a minibus taxi was found to have rolled several times.
Injured commuters were found clambering to safety and an on-scene triage area was immediately established by incident commanders, while the Emer-G-Med Emergency Operations Centre dispatched additional resources to the scene.
An adult male aged about 30 was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.
Sixteen commuters were treated and stabilised on the scene for injuries ranging from minor to moderate and were taken by ambulances to nearby receiving medical facilities for further care.
In another early Sunday morning crash, Emer-G-Med paramedics responded to the scene of a collision involving two light motor vehicles on the N3 near London Road, Johannesburg.

Reports from the scene are that two luxury sedans collided at high speed and high impact.
Three men were left injured, two of them critically.
Emergency Care Practitioners worked fervently to stabilize the two men using several advanced life support interventions before they were placed onto mechanical ventilators and transported rapidly by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further care.

In the third incident on Sunday, paramedics attended to an adult male motorcyclist who was found to have sustained fatal injuries following a collision with a light motor vehicle on the R101.
He was declared dead on the arrival of paramedics.
