Potchefstroom – Five suspects who robbed a jewellery store in Klerksdorp will appear in court on Monday, (15 May 2023).

The suspects were arrested Thursday evening by police in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District, North West.

Information gathered by the police indicates that three armed men entered the jewellery store at a complex and pointed a gun at the lone salesperson.

However, the salesperson managed to run out of the store and alerted the police.

The robbers stole jewellery and fled the scene in a white getaway car that had two other occupants.

Police said the getaway car was traced along the N12 with the assistance of the Syntell camera group.

The car was headed toward Wolmaransstad.

The Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Tactical Response Team together with Wolmaransstad police intercepted the car and arrested everyone that was inside.

South African Police Service (SAPS) Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena commended the law enforcement units that arrested the suspects soon after the robbery.

SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani said the arrested suspects, aged between 28 and 41, will appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court on Monday to face charges related to business robbery.
