Durban – A woman was fatally shot and three others – including a guard – were wounded during a cash-in-transit robbery along the M35, near Mega Philani Valley in Umlazi.
On Monday evening at about 18:00 daring armed robbers fired guns and used explosives during the violent heist.
In the ensuing mayhem, a woman believed to be in her 30s was fatally shot while in a private car. Another person in the same car was shot and wounded.
A passenger in a nearby minibus taxi suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

One of the guards in the cash-in-transit van was also wounded in the violent heist.
The robbers blew up the van before making off with an undisclosed amount of money.
Multiple emergency service agencies including Emer-G-Med and ALS Paramedics responded to the scene of the cash-in-transit heist.
“On arrival on scene teams were met with chaos as the carcass of an armoured van which had been blown up by unknown suspects, occupied the roadway,” said Emer-G-Med.
“One guard was found with a gunshot wound, whilst a second was found to have been assaulted.”
Emer-G-Med added: “In a vehicle nearby an adult female was found to have sustained fatal gunshot injuries believed to be in the crossfire, she was declared dead on arrival of paramedics.
“A male patient was found near the female with gunshot wounds and he was treated and stabilised on the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care.”
South African Police Service officers were on the scene. No arrests have been reported.
