Johannesburg – Bafana Bafana beat Morocco 2-1 at FNB Stadium on Saturday in a hotly contested match.
Clive “The Dog” Barker must have smiled from heaven when Bafana striker Zakhele Lepasa scored the second goal against Morocco and imitated the late former coach’s flying celebration.
Lepasa scored early in the second half, just like Percy Tau did in the first half of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
The Lion of Judah opened the scoring for Bafana five minutes into the first half.
The Al Ahli striker crossed the ball into the Morocco penalty area, but goalkeeper Munir fumbled, and the ball slipped through his hands into the net.
The Atlas Lions, who reached the World Cup semifinals, pulled one back through Chelsea striker Hakim Ziyech. His low-angled shot beat Bafana Keeper Ronwen Williams on the 60th minute.
From then on Morocco piled on the pressure but Bafana stood firm to emerge victorious over their more illustrious opponents.
Both South Africa and Morocco had already qualified for AFCON, but the game was far from being a dead rubber.
