Johannesburg – Police in Gauteng have arrested two suspects, aged 34 and 35, and seized five unlicensed firearms, two jamming devices, and a large amount of cash.
Narrating events leading to the arrest of the pair, SA Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said on 6 July 2023 a team of law enforcers followed up on information about a person of interest in a murder in Yeoville the previous day.
The team of law enforcers included SAPS members from Hillbrow Detectives, Johannesburg K9 unit, and Flying Squad including private security companies under the Eyes and Ears (E2) initiative.
“A takedown operation was conducted in Parktown, and this led to the discovery of five unlicensed firearms with filed-off serial numbers, ammunition, jamming devices, and an undisclosed amount of money,” said Colonel Nevhuhulwi.

The Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has commended the members for the good work in recovering firearms and arresting the perpetrators.
“This is commendable because firearms continue to be a weapon of choice used in the commission of serious crimes and with them being removed from the wrong hands, surely we can decrease such crimes,” said Lt Gen Mawela.
The public are urged to continue to work with the police in the fight against crime by reporting any criminal activities anonymously on the SAPS Crime Stop Line at 08600 10111 or on the MySaps App, which can be downloaded on any smartphone.
