Hazyview – Law enforcers swooped on a house in Phola, Masoyi, on Friday morning and recovered dangerous weapons that included four AK47 Rifles, and explosives.
Acting on a tip-off, a Mpumalanga multi-disciplinary law enforcement team searched a house they had been informed was being used to conceal the weapons.
Hawks Mpumalanga spokesperson Captain Dineo Sekgotodi said the house was searched, but no one was found inside.
However, several firearms, ammunition, and explosives were found hidden in the ceiling.
Captain Sekgotodi said four AK47 rifles, 15 magazines, 345 rounds of ammunition, explosives, and bulletproof vests belonging to the police and army were recovered in the search.

The weapons were believed to have been used in a recent spate of cash-in-transit robberies in and around Hazyview.
Captain Sekgotodi encouraged more people to come forward with information they might be aware of that could assist law enforcers to solve crimes.
“The public is urged to share information with the Hawks regarding cash-in-transit heists. All information will be dealt with in strict confidence,” said Captain Sekgotodi.
The Provincial Head of the Hawks in Mpumalanga, Major General Gerber applauded the multidisciplinary team for recovering the lethal weapons.
The team consisted of Nelspruit Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit, Middelburg Serious Organised Crime Unit, NPVC Head Office, Crime Intelligence Unit, National Intervention Unit, Nelspruit LCRC, and Nelspruit Bomb Disposal Unit.
Major General Gerber said the Hawks were in hot pursuit of criminals.
“We will not stop until all of you are wearing orange overalls, Major General Gerber warned.
The General reiterated the Hawks’ commitment to root-out serious crimes and also encouraged the community to keep on providing information to the authorities.
