Orkney – African National Congress (ANC) MP Sibusiso Kula accused of murdering his wife – Jennifer Mohlomi, will be back in court next month.
On Wednesday, the Orkney Magistrate’s Court, in the North West, postponed the murder case against 34-year-old Kula, to 13 October 2023.
The Director of Public Prosecutions is considering the transfer of the murder case to the high court.
Kulas attorney had argued against any further postponement, citing “unreasonable delay” by the state.
However, the state indicated that previous postponements were a result of incomplete investigations.
The state said investigations have now been completed and it was ready to proceed.
Kula was also provided with a list of witnesses, as was instructed by the high court when granting him bail.
The accused is out on R50 000 bail, granted by the high court of South Africa, North West Division, following his appeal on the Orkney Magistrates Court decision to deny him bail.
As part of his bail conditions, Kula was ordered to surrender his passports, report twice a day at the nearest police station, provide the investigating officer with his work itinerary, report to the investigating officer before he can travel outside his residential jurisdiction, and have no direct or indirect contact with his children.
Kula’s bid to have the case struck off the roll was previously rejected by the court.
