Kimberley – Pupils from Carnarvon High School touched down at the Kimberley Airport on Tuesday after participating in the World Robot Olympiad Friendship Invitational tournament which took place last week in Odense, Denmark.
The experience they gained from this exposure is priceless.
Some of the pupils will participate in the forthcoming provincial FIRST LEGO League competition in November.
The South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO) has been running the Robotics Schools Program in the Karoo since 2016.
The aim is to develop and inspire an interest in STEM skills in the schools around the development of the MeerKAT radio telescope, a precursor to the Square Kilometre Array.
A feather to the cap of SARAO’s Robotics Schools Programme is that the programme’s coordinator, Odwa Magabuko, was selected as a judge at the World Robot Olympiad Friendship Invitational tournament in the Robo Mission category.
