Minibus Taxi Driver Sibusiso Malwane Remanded In Custody For Trafficking 23 Bangladesh, Pakistan Nationals

REMANDED IN CUSTODY: Sibusiso Malwane, the 33-year-old South African minibus taxi driver, was arrested for transporting 23 passengers who were suspected border jumpers from Bangladesh and Pakistan

Malelane – South African minibus taxi driver 33-year-old Sibusiso Malwane, arrested along with his 23 passengers who were suspected border jumpers from Bangladesh and Pakistan – has been remanded in custody.

Malwane was driving a Quantum minibus when he was arrested. 

Acting on a tip-off, the police in Mpumalanga had stopped him and established that his passengers were “undocumented” foreign nationals. 

Two of the arrested passengers are teenagers.

On Thursday, Malwane appeared in the Low’s Creek Periodical Court in Mpumalanga.

He is facing a charge related to the trafficking of persons.

The court remanded Malwane in custody. His next appearance in court was set for Thursday, (23 November 2023).

Meanwhile, all the arrested foreign nationals remain behind bars as ordered by the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Their case related to entering South Africa unlawfully was postponed to Monday, (20 November 2023).
