Durban – A brave worker saved a schoolgirl and her mother from a pitbull attack and ended up getting bitten himself in the process.
The vicious dog was running towards the mother and child along Gordon Road Windermere, outside a school, when the worker noticed the danger and intervened.
ALS Paramedics said they responded at about 07:00 on Tuesday morning, to numerous calls of a dog attack outside a school.
“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find police in attendance with the road closed,” ALS Paramedics said.
“Paramedics were shown a man believed to be in his 40s… he had sustained multiple serious dog bites to his body.
“He had been attacked by a Pitbull.”
Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise him on the scene before they rushed him to a nearby hospital for the urgent care that he required.
Paramedics also treated and transported a young child as a result of this horrific incident.
“It is alleged that a lady and child were walking towards the school when the pitbull ran out of a nearby house and went to attack the child,” ALS Paramedics said.
“The man, a worker from the school, shielded the child from the dog, thus possibly saving her life.”
SA Police Service officers were on scene and dealt with the dog and will be investigating further.
