Kimberley – A Namibian man was arrested after refuse bags packed with compressed dagga with an estimated street value of R250 000 were found in his truck.

Northern Cape police said the 32-year-old man was arrested at the Vioolsdrift border gate.

“During routine checks at the Vioolsdrift Port of Entry on Wednesday, (3 January 2024), at 20:00, members searched a truck and recovered refuse bags that contained 21 Kg of compressed dagga with an estimated street value of R250 000 at the back of the truck,” said Northern Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Molefi Shimane.

He said the Namibian man was arrested for illegal dealing in drugs.

“The suspect will appear in court soon,” he said.

In another separate drug-related incident, a 35-year-old man was arrested after mandrax with a street value of over R45 000 was found in his possession.

Colonel Cherelle Ehlers said the man was arrested on Wednesday, shortly before midnight when the police were conducting a vehicle checkpoint in the Warrenton area.

“A vehicle was stopped and searched,” said Colonel Ehlers.

“A bag containing 907 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R45 250  and 1 kg of crystal meth with an estimated street value of R12 500 was recovered and confiscated.”

Colonel Ehlers said the vehicle was also seized.
