Mount Ayliff – African National Congress (ANC) Alfred Nzo regional executive member, Thembile Richard Luvela had been shot dead.
Luvela was shot at while driving along the N2, as he went past Bhetshwana village, near Mount Ayliff.
Commenting on the murder, ANC spokesperson in the Eastern Cape, Gift Ngqondi, said Luvela was gunned down Tuesday afternoon,
Ngqondi also revealed that the ANC deputy chair of the Dr WB Rubusana Region, Kayise Tom, was shot and injured in a separate incident.
“Tom was shot and injured after she just returned home from attending a memorial service at NU 10 in Mdantsane and was recuperating in hospital,” Ngqondi said.
“We are shocked and outraged by this mysterious murder of Cde. Luvela and we find his murder a vicious attack on the peace-loving people.
“We are severely pained by the continuous strings of killings in our province in areas such as Nelson Mandela Metro, Buffalo City Metro, Mthatha, Dutywa, Ugie, Mhlontlo, and Ingquza.”
Ngqondi said the ANC in the Eastern Cape condemned the attacks on its members and urged the law enforcement agencies to do everything possible to bring those responsible to book.
“We have consistently called for the beefing up of crime intelligence to assist in the fight against crime and killings in the province and call on the Minister of Police (Bheki Cele) to send a crack team to conduct a full investigation into the killings and apprehend perpetrators and those who planned the killings,” Ngqondi said.
“We also appeal to members of the community who might have information to come forward and assist with the investigation.”
