KaNyamazane – Community radio station KaNyamazane FM now has a state-of-the-art studio.

The station is situated in KaNyamazane, near Mbombela (formerly Nelspruit), Mpumalanga.

KaNyamazane FM, also known as K Radio, is accessible on the frequency of 107.3 FM.

The unveiling of the state-of-the-art studio on Tuesday was presided over by the Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni.

She was flanked by the Media Development and Diversity Agency’s (MDDA)’s Board Chairperson Professor Hlengani Mathebula.

Minister Ntshavheni said community media has become a vital part of any society. Such radio stations ensure that communities are represented in their diversity.

“Local radio stations engage people of different cultures and backgrounds, and through the use of indigenous languages such as Siswati, advances dialogue and promotes participatory democracy,” the minister said.

“It is important that these broadcasters are uplifted so they can communicate relevant information effectively and be the voice of the community they serve.”

The radio station has an apt slogan that says: “You voice. Our voice”.

Elmond Jiyane of the Government Communications Information System said the radio station would play a vital role in informing, educating, and entertaining residents of KaNyamazane and surrounding areas.

“The unveiling forms part of the MDDA’s ongoing work to support the development and diversity of community and small commercial media, ” Jiyane said.

Speaking to The Bulrushes, a jubilant KaNyamazane resident Jabulani Nkosi, said: “We are glad about the unveiling of the radio station because it will keep us up-to-date of everything we need to know about, especially our local activities like news, sport etc.”

Another resident from Tekwane South Ncobile Mavuso said: “The radio station came at the right time because I have always been interested in pursuing a career in the media, especially as a news reporter.

“I will have to try my luck by applying for in-service training with the radio station while I’m busy studying media studies on a part-time.”
