Mbombela (Formerly Nelspruit) – The Mpumalanga Provincial Government in partnership with FlySafair this week unveiled a new route from Kruger Mpumalanga Airport to Cape Town International Airport.
The low-cost airline will have two flights a week on this route.
Flights, using FlySafair’s Boeing 737-800 aircraft, are scheduled to depart from Cape Town International Airport at 09:00 every Tuesday and Saturday, landing at Kruger Mpumalanga Airport around 11:30.
Return flights will take off from Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport at 12:05, reaching Cape Town approximately at 14:50.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Mpumalanga Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane said the new route would play a vital role in boosting the province’s tourism sector.
She said the new flights would help make Mpumalanga a preferred destination for tourists.
“It is an honour to welcome a new low-cost airline. FlySafair will fly twice a week between Kruger Mpumalanga Airport and Cape Town International Airport,” said Premier Mtshweni-Tsipane.
“Our province has long been regarded as a destination of choice for inbound and travellers from abroad.
“It gives us great pleasure to partner with FlySafair to make this new route a reality.”
The premier added: “This milestone not only strengthens our position as a key player in the aviation industry but also marks a significant step forward in enhancing connectivity and offering more travel options to our passengers.
“This will surely give the province’s tourism a boost.”
The initiative has brought relief to local tour operators, residents, and tourists alike.
Bernard Shabangu said: “This is a significant development in the space. The cost of travel has been one of the barriers to unlocking the tourism potential of our beautiful province.
“This progressive move by the province will certainly stimulate tourism and bring about much-needed relief to local and visiting tourists alike.”
Resident Trevor Danielz, said: “So one cannot get to the Kruger (airport) by using the road because of the poor state of the road, especially potholes. So let’s fly. Well done FlySafair”.
