Durban – Two people died and several others were injured in a head-on collision in the Cliffdale area west of Durban on Father’s Day.
ALS Paramedics said at around 15:30 on Sunday afternoon medics responded to a serious vehicle collision.
“Paramedics arrived on scene to find carnage as they found that two vehicles collided head-on leaving multiple injured and multiple entrapped,” said ALS Paramedics.
“Immediately more ambulances as well as Advanced Life Support Paramedics were dispatched to assist at the scene.
“A triage was done and it was established that the one vehicle had three occupants in it.”
ALS Paramedics said the two men in the front believed to be in their 30s and 40s were found severely entrapped in the wreckage.
“Both men were assessed by paramedics, however, both had sustained fatal injuries and there was nothing more paramedics could do for them and they were declared deceased at the scene,” said ALS Paramedics.
The Ethekweni Fire Department and Netcare 911 Rescue unit used the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment to cut the men free.
“A four-year-old seated in the rear of the vehicle had sustained critical injuries and Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise him on the scene before rushing him to a nearby hospital for the urgent care that he required,” said ALS Paramedics.
