Pretoria – Three people – two teenage boys and an adult male – died in a collision between a bus and a bakkie on the M10 Road in Bynespoort, near Cullinan.
The City of Tshwane Emergency Services Department said the tragedy occurred at 15:09 on Thursday, (27 June 2024).
On arrival at the crash scene, the Emergency Services Department officials found a bakkie lodged under a bus.
Multiple patients from the bus received emergency medical treatment from various ambulance services that were in attendance at the scene of the accident.
Tshwane Emergency Services Department spokesperson Thabo Charles Mabaso said: “Firefighters immediately started the extrication of a male patient that was trapped inside the bakkie and presumed dead”.
A heavy-lifting towing truck was requested to assist with the lifting of the bus to further the extrication of the trapped victim.
“Once the bus was lifted, a further two victims, two boys aged around 14 years, were discovered inside the bakkie,” said Mabaso.
“The three victims, an adult male, and two boys, were declared dead by paramedics on the scene.”
Mabaso said 26 patients with injuries ranging from minor to moderate were transported to Mamelodi Hospital and Stanza Bopape Clinic by the Gauteng Emergency Medical Services and other ambulance services.
The cause of the accident is under police investigation.
