Balfour – The four siblings – three sisters and their brother – accused of the murder of their 71-year-old father Moganjana James Molefe appeared before the Balfour Magistrate’s Court, in Mpumalanga on Tuesday.
One of the sisters was acquitted while the other three siblings – 45-year-old Pat Molefe, 45-year-old Mamotseki Molefe, and 36-year-old Nana Molefe – were remanded in custody.
The trio, who are accused of fatally shooting their elderly father at their home in Balfour, Mpumalanga at the weekend, will return to court on Tuesday, (27 August 2024), when they will request bail.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli recalled it was the neighbours that found the elderly man’s body and raised the alarm.
“The victim had multiple visible gunshot wounds. Some empty cartridges were also found at the scene,” said Colonel Donald Mdhluli.
The victim was certified dead by the paramedics and a murder case was opened.
Colonel Donald Mdhluli said a preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had previously been granted a Protection Order against his children.
“The investigation by the police yielded positive results as it led to the arrest of the four siblings,” said Colonel Mdhluli.
“Their case was postponed for a formal bail application.
“Currently, there are no charges laid upon the fourth person and the woman has since been released.
“The three suspects remained in custody and the investigation is still ongoing.”
