Cape Town – The much-anticipated inaugural Rands Holidae festival, scheduled for later this month, has been postponed because of “challenges with by-laws”.
“To our cherished community and supporters of Rands Holidae and Rands Cape Town, It is with a heavy heart that we announce the postponement of the inaugural Rands Holidae festival, originally scheduled for November 2024,” Rands Holidae Team, the organisers, said in a statement.
“This decision comes after thorough consideration and discussions with local authorities, stakeholders, and our legal team.
“Earlier this year, we celebrated a major milestone with the acquisition of Mooigelee Farm, the envisioned home of Rands Holidae.
“We moved swiftly from planning to execution, securing crucial infrastructure such as irrigation, electrical works, plumbing, and landscaping.
“We had successfully completed 90% of artist bookings, brand partnerships, sponsorships, and logistics – all key components to delivering the immersive, unforgettable experience we had promised.”
However, in a recent meeting with the Swartland Municipality, organisers said they were informed of significant challenges regarding municipal bylaws and the rezoning process.
“These legislative hurdles differ substantially from those of the City of Cape Town, where we are accustomed to operating,” the statement said.
“After thoughtful discussions with our legal team, partners, and municipal officials, we’ve had to make the incredibly difficult decision to postpone Rands Holidae 2024.
“While this setback is disheartening, we remain optimistic and committed to our vision.”
Organisers said the dream of Rands Holidae was “not gone, only delayed”.
The statement further added: “We are already looking forward to a brighter 2025 and are deeply grateful for the ongoing support of our community.
“We know that together, we will come back stronger.
“While we are unable to proceed with Rands Holidae 2024, we are excited to announce an amplified Rands Summer Sessions experience this December.
“From November 29 to January 3, Rands in Khayelitsha will host a musical and experiential celebration featuring all of the artists originally announced for Rands Holidae, alongside some additional surprises.”
Organisers said the event promises to be an unforgettable celebration of music, culture, and community.
