Durban – A multiple-vehicle collision involving two trucks and four cars occurred Saturday morning along the N3, Pietermaritzburg Bound, near Cliffdale west of Durban.

ALS Paramedics responded to the call for help just after 7 am.

“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find chaos as the entire N3 was closed due to the crash,” said ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.

A triage station was set up. It was found that two trucks and four light motor vehicles had been involved in the collision.

“Eight patients had sustained various injuries ranging from moderate to critical and multiple ALS Ambulances worked to stabilise them on the scene before transporting them to various Durban and Pietermaritzburg hospitals for the further care that they required,” said Jamieson.

It is alleged that a truck lost control and crashed into vehicles traveling toward Pietermaritzburg.

Road Traffic Information and police officers were promptly on the scene.

“The N3 Pietermaritzburg Bound was closed whilst emergency workers worked to clear the scene, however, I would advise motorists to avoid this area at all costs for some time to allow the scene to be cleared,” said Jamieson.
