Barberton – Police in Mpumalanga intercepted 15 bags of dagga with an estimated street value of R2.4m and arrested two suspects along the R38 road in Louw’s Creek, near Barberton.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane said the police were conducting routine patrols on Monday (20 January 2025) when they stopped and searched a white Hyundai bakkie.
“Upon searching the vehicle, the officers discovered 15 bags stashed with dagga inside the bakkie,” said Lieutenant Colonel Ndubane.
“The dagga weighed 644.14 kilograms with an estimated street value of about R2.4 million.”
Police arrested two suspects aged 31 and 39.
“The investigation thus indicates that the suspects were from Louville near Low’s Creek and were en route to Matsulu when the police intercepted them,” said Lieutenant Colonel Ndubane.
The suspects, who have been with the unlawful possession and dealing in dagga, will appear in the Barberton Magistrate’s Court today, (Tuesday 21 January 2025).
