Pretoria – Frans du Toit and Theuns Kruger, convicted for the brutal attack on Alison Botha three decades ago, are back behind bars after Correctional Services Minister Dr. Pieter Groenewald cancelled their parole.
Announcing the parole cancellation on Tuesday, (4 February 2025), Minister Groenewald said: “This decision follows thorough evaluation and consultation of legal opinions”.
Dr. Groenewald said the cancellation was made in accordance with the Correctional Services Act, which empowers the minister to cancel parole for individuals sentenced to life imprisonment.
The pair had been released on parole last year without the knowledge of Alison Botha.
“The minister’s primary consideration is the imperative of protecting and securing the community, particularly in instances where acts of violence against women and children have been committed,” Dr. Groenewald said
“Both individuals have been reincarcerated and will remain in custody.”
Reports at the time of the heinous crime in December 1994 said Alison Botha was raped, stabbed at least 30 times, nearly decapitated and left for dead.
Alison Botha’s courage was epitomised after she publicly identified herself as the woman who survived the brutal attack.
