Pretoria – Saam Sokolo Security has revealed that the four burnt bodies found with bullet wounds in Soshanguve, Tshwane, were those of “dedicated patrollers”.
The bodies were in the Marry Me informal area in the early morning on Saturday, (22 March 2025).

Responding to the murders Saam Sokolo Security said it was launching a coordinated manhunt in partnership with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and all relevant security sectors.
“These brave individuals, who committed their lives to keeping our community safe, were killed in cold blood, and we will not rest until the culprits are brought to justice,” Saam Sokolo Security said in a statement made available to The Bulrushes.
“We are deeply concerned by the recent surge in violence, particularly in informal settlements, where those tasked with protecting and cleaning our neighborhoods are being killed and attacked like animals.
“This is not just an attack on our security personnel; it is an attack on the entire community of Soshanguve. We refuse to allow this area to devolve into a jungle of horrors where lawlessness reigns.”
Out of the 13 victims, four tragically lost their lives in this senseless act of violence. We cannot, and will not, tolerate such acts of hooliganism and brutality.
Saam Sokolo Security said it will work tirelessly with the South African Police Service, security forums, and bargaining sectors to ensure the safety and security of the people of Soshanguve.
“We will deploy all necessary resources to intervene in the informal settlements, where these heinous acts have been taking place,” the statement said.
“We are committed to restoring the dignity of the community, and we will do so by force, if necessary.
“The safety of our people is our top priority, and we will ensure that these criminals are held accountable for their actions.
“We call on all citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Together, we will restore peace and safety to our communities.”
Although no arrests have been made, Saam Sokolo Security said no one was above the law, and “we will” continue to fight for justice.
Meanwhile, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Gauteng said it was “outraged” by the brutal killing of four community patrollers.
“The senseless murder of these community activists, who dedicated their lives to safeguarding their neighborhood, is a tragic loss and a severe blow to the safety and security of the people of Soshanguve,” said the EFF.
“The EFF in Gauteng is deeply concerned about the slow and inadequate response from the Soshanguve Police to this heinous incident.
“We have consistently raised alarms about the deteriorating state of policing in Soshanguve, where criminals have become increasingly emboldened, terrorizing the community, murdering children and activists, and unleashing violence on innocent people.”
The EFF said Soshanguve, in particular, was experiencing a sharp rise in crime rates.
The community has seen an increase in violent crimes such as armed robberies and hijackings.
According to recent statistics, Soshanguve ranks among the top 30 crime hotspots in Gauteng.
The EFF said it raised this issue in Parliament and called on Police Minister Senzo Mchunu to prioritise high-crime areas, enhance intelligence capacity, and strengthen and equip community-based policing units.
“Unfortunately, the Minister has failed to heed our call,” the EFF said.
