Middleburg – Three people died – including a toddler – in a Good Friday horror crash involving a truck and a multipurpose vehicle.

Five others were injured in the collision along the R38 road near Middleburg in Mpumalanga.

Three of the survivors suffered serious injuries.

Commenting on the deadly crash, Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liason MEC Jackie Macie said it was of “huge concern”, considering an earlier head-on collision on Thursday, (17 April 2025), along the N4 between Belfast and Middleburg in which five people died.

“We remain undeterred to enforce the law on roads in order to prevent needless loss of lives from road crashes,” MEC Macie said.

“However, the behaviour of some motorists remains a huge concern to us, judging by the recent fatal crashes we have recorded since Thursday.”

MEC Macie added: “We will continue to ensure heightened law enforcement visibility on all priority routes in the province.”
