Moscow – In the past decade, Moscow Metro reports that it has reduced the number of offences on trains and railway stations by more than half.
“This success is attributed to a combination of advanced technology, enhanced security measures, and coordinated efforts between various services,” Moscow Metro said in a statement made available to The Bulrushes on Wednesday, (7 May 2025).

Moscow Metro said the key factors behind the reduction of crime on trains and at railway stations include:
- The creation of a dedicated Security Service and the introduction of rigorous inspections
- The active role of the Moscow Government’s Departmental Security Service
- The installation of over 90 000 surveillance cameras across the metro’s infrastructure
- The deployment of the cutting-edge video analytics system called “Sphere”

Deputy Mayor of Moscow Maksim Liksutov, who oversees the city’s transport and infrastructure sectors, highlighted the importance of modern technology and teamwork in achieving these results.
“Our specialists oversee nearly every square metre of the Moscow Metro’s infrastructure with the help of advanced cameras,” said Liksutov.
“The coordinated efforts of the Security Service and law enforcement agencies, combined with modern technology, have made Moscow Metro one of the safest in the world.
“We will continue to ensure the comfort and safety of passengers in line with the instructions of Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin.”

He said Moscow Metro’s commitment to safety and innovation underscores its position as a global leader in urban transportation security, providing passengers with a safe and reliable travel experience.
