Johannesburg – Police have shot dead five suspected cash-in-transit robbers in Crown Mine, Johannesburg.
Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the suspects were fatally wounded during a shootout with the police in the evening on Thursday, 24 July 2025.
Police said firearms – an AK-47 and a revolver – were recovered on the scene.
The suspects had been followed from KwaZulu-Natal, where they were allegedly involved in cash-in-transit heists.
Police said the suspects were linked to previous crimes through their vehicle, which had been used in other armed robbers.
