Schoemansdal – A reward of R150 000 has been offered for information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects who fatally shot police officer Lawrence Dumisani Mtshweni.
The 47-year-old sergeant from Schoemansdal Police Station in Mpumalanga was shot dead when he responded to a robbery at a supermarket at the weekend.
Sergeant Dumisani, who had been a police officer for 18 years, met his untimely demise on Saturday, 9 August 2025.
The next day, Sunday, 10 August 2025, National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola, alongside his Lieutenants from Mpumalanga and the national office, visited the slain sergeant’s bereaved family to express their sympathies.
The police top brass promised to “leave no stone unturned” to bring to book all the perpetrators.
The brave police officer and his colleagues had engaged in a shootout with the armed robbers when tragedy struck.
Sergeant Mtshweni was shot and later declared dead at the hospital.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli on Tuesday, 12 August 2025, said: “The police leadership visited the family and then proceeded to the crime scene where Sergeant Mtsweni was shot while on duty and later died in the hospital.
“During the visit, the national commissioner announced that one suspect was apprehended, but more details will be shared at a later stage,” Mdhluli said.
Brigadier Mdhluli added: “General Masemola further indicated that a reward of R150 000 has since been offered to anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrators who took the life of Sgt Mtshweni.”
