Learner Stabbed To Death On Way Home Named As 17-Year-Old Tshepo Tshabalala

KwaMhlanga – The Grade 8 learner from Senzangakhona Secondary School in Mandela Village, near KwaMhlanga, Mpumlanga, who was stabbed to death by a 15-year-old schoolchild, has been identified as 17-year-old Tshepo Tshabalala.

Tshepo was reportedly fatally stabbed after school by a 15-year-old fellow learner while on the way home on Thursday, 14 August 2025.

Mpumalanga Education Department spokesperson, Jasper Zwane, said: “MEC for Education, Ms. Lindi Masina, will on Sunday, 17 August 2025, visit the family of the late Tshepo Tshabalalala.”

He added, “Masina will use the visit to extend her condolences to the bereaved family and the entire school community. May the soul of the departed rest in peace.”

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane said Tshepo was stabbed in the chest, allegedly by the 15-year-old who has since been arrested.

The accused allegedly fled the scene after the stabbing.

“The suspect was then traced to his home and arrested,” said Lieutenant Colonel Ndubane.

“The murder weapon was found in possession of the suspect’s friend, who was taken in for further questioning.

“A  murder case is under investigation.”  

Lieutenant Colonel Ndubane said the 15-year-old accused would soon appear in court after having been seen by a probation officer.
