Ogies – Seven people have died in a head-on collision along the N12 in Ogies, near eMalahleni (formerly Witbank), Mpumalanga.

The deadly crash involving a bakkie and a sedan occurred in the morning on Monday, 8 December 2025.

The deceased included three males and two females who were traveling in the sedan, and two men from the bakkie.

Although the names of he dead have not been released, Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie, conveyed sympathies to bereaved families.

MEC Macie called for caution on the roads.

“I’m urging motorists to use the road with heightened caution,” the MEC said.

“Let us all be cautious on the road to curb needless loss of life and injury on the road.

“We should all endevour to abide by the rules of the road at all times.”

The cause of the horrific collision was being investigated.

However, a preliminary probe suggests one of the vehicles veered into oncoming traffic lane.

Meanwhile, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has reiterated its call on motorists to avoid late-night and pre-dawn travel.

The RTMC said avoiding driving in the dark would reduce the chances of crashes during the festive season.

Releasing more details about the deadly collision along the N12 near Ogies in Mpumalanga that resulted in seven fatalities, RTMC spokesperson Simon Zwane said the Toyota sedan had five Mozambicans, and the Nissan NP 200 LDV was transporting two locals.

“The crash occurred when the driver of Nissan LDV, travelling from east to west on the N12, lost control of the vehicle and it crossed the centre median in the path of the approaching Toyota sedan, where the vehicles collided in a T-Bone type crash,” Zwane.

“All occupants in both vehicles died at the scene.”

Zwane added: “The cause of the crash is unknown at this stage and will be subject to the ongoing investigation by the RTMC Crash Unit members and the South African Police Service”.
