Moscow – A themed train dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the founding of the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Russia began running in the Moscow Metro.
The train will operate on the Ring Line for six months.
The new train has become a true chronicle of the country’s main stage.
The exposition, located in the carriages, introduces passengers to the history of the theater, its prominent figures, and modern development.
Passengers will be able to:
• learn about the history of the founding of the Bolshoi Theatre
• Meet legendary artists, directors, conductors, and choreographers through archival photographs
• Read about iconic productions from the current repertoire
• “Look behind the scenes” and learn about the intricacies of theatrical life
• see how the theater is developing today, including the changes of recent years
“Congratulations to the staff of the Bolshoi Theatre on its 250th anniversary, a significant date not only for the capital, but for the whole country.
Along with the Moscow Metro, which has been serving Muscovites and guests of the capital for more than 90 years, the Bolshoi Theater remains one of the main symbols of our city.
“For the anniversary, we have launched a themed train that will run along the Ring Line for six months,” said Maksim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.
“I am sure that he will become a true ambassador of the Bolshoi Theater in the metro and will allow millions of passengers to rediscover its rich history.
“We are implementing cultural and educational projects in accordance with the tasks of Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin.”
Deputy Mayor Liksutov added: “We are proud to work in Moscow, one of the most dynamic cities in the world.
“Our cooperation with the Moscow Government is yielding real results.
“Today, we are launching a train dedicated to the Bolshoi Theatre together, and we hope that it will be a pleasant and unexpected gift for passengers of the Moscow Metro.”
Valery Gergiev, General Director of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, said: “We strive to enrich the cultural life of the capital: our poster is becoming more saturated and diverse.
“The culmination of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Bolshoi Theatre is scheduled for December – we will celebrate this anniversary on a special scale.”
The project was implemented by the Moscow Metro together with the Bolshoi Theatre as part of the development of cultural and educational initiatives in urban transport.
