Blinkpan – Six people died in a head-on collision between two bakkies on the R542 near Blinkpan, outside Middelburg in Mpumalanga, on Friday, 5 June 2026.

Both drivers were among the deceased.

Four other occupants sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospitals in Middelburg and Emalahleni (formerly Witbank) for treatment.

Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the crash.

The identities of the deceased are being withheld until their next of kin have been notified.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie, extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

“All road users must play their part to curb such loss of lives. Every road user must obey the rules of the road and remain alert at all times,” Macie said.
